The Cheese Cupid’s Collection

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, a day devoted to romance, passion, and pleasure.

Take the opportunity to enjoy good food and wine. Linger over a romantic meal longer than normal, soaking in every delicious, intimate flavor.

And if, during your special Valentine’s outing you happen to find yourself in the Little Italy or Del Mar Farmers Market, we just happen to have a few passionate ways to pair cheese, surprise your valentine and enhance the romance!

These cheese pairings aim directly at your taste buds and are a sure fire way to love at first “bite”. The pairings are simple and savory, seductive and stimulating. Four exhilarating cheeses have finally found their perfect match:

1. The Celestial Couple: Teleme and Fig Chutney

A slice of Teleme puddled on a plate is one of the most appetizing sights in the cheese world. With an unparalleled creamy texture similar to Brie and a flavor as rich as crème fraiche, it spreads easily and is a perfect compliment to chutneys and jams. Adriatic fig spread (available at Henry’s) is a Mediterranean style chutney with intense flavors of dark fruit and a hint of honey.

2. The Sweet Harmony of Honey: Dry Jack and Raw White Honey

Dry jack is the quintessential Northern California cheese, aged 9-12 months and hand rubbed with cocoa powder, black pepper and olive oil. Honey is the perfect compliment to this dry, salty, wonderfully aged cheese. Relish this sweet harmony atop a crisp Fugi apple, adding depth and character to the pairing.

3. Opposites Attract: Sage Cheddar and Chocolove’s “Cherries and Almonds in Dark Chocolate”

A sensual sage-infused cheddar is a culinary delight and one of our most pungent cheeses. The sweet crunch of almonds and cherries in the chocolate offer subtle tones to the savory cheese and a creamy, robust flavor to the palette, creating a lush, loyal and romantic relationship.

4. Nothing says ‘I Love You’ more than: Garlic Goat Cheddar and Aromatic Herb Crostini

A light, creamy, aged goat cheese with notes of garlic will make subtle advances to even the most discerning of cheese lovers. When served atop a warm, homemade, herbed crostini it’s sure enhance the moment and send your partner wild.

These are just a few recommendations, for our favorite cheese lovers to relish. If you are interested in more ideas or just want to share your passionate combination we would love to hear from you!
